Pentucket Spotlight on Excellence: Community Members Revitalize Page School Library

WEST NEWBURY — Superintendent Justin Bartholomew and Principal Emily Puteri are pleased to announce that the Page School library has undergone renovations due to the spirit and generosity of the school community.

The concept for these renovations was developed in February 2022 by second-grade Page student Bryce Goldweber vocalized his interest in the school library to his mother Meg Goldweber, who relayed this message to his grandmother, Deb Treco.

Treco decided that the library needed to be “freshened up” to be back and running.
During the last 11 months volunteers, staff members, and custodial staff donated 900-plus hours, discarding 4,600-plus outdated and damaged books. They also patched and painted the library, and purchased and assembled new bookshelves and furniture.

The library, which had limited function due to budget constraints, now offers a space for students to read, find their creativity, or just relax. Class teachers can now arrange read-alongs by staff, volunteers, and mystery guests.

The library also is now available for after-school programs, PTO meetings, and staff meetings.

“We are so grateful to our school community for all they have done for us,” said Principal Puteri. “We now have a wonderful multi-use space that is being used constantly.”

Superintendent Bartholomew and Principal Puteri wish to thank the following for their support of this project: The Page School PTO, whose monetary donations enabling the purchase of the furniture and shelving; G.A.R. Memorial Library Director Corrin Flaherty and Children’s Librarian Kate Gove, who shared valuable expertise; Page staff members Mary Bellerose, Irene Mahoney, Pam Towers, Julie Garbec, Tara Ellis, Emily Morse, Pam Atwood, and custodial staff ; and our current volunteers Vanessa Bacheller, Mimi Dabritz, Bernadette Hamilton, Natalie Rowe, Suzanne Sutherland, and Deb Treco.
